— ABOUT

Hi, I’m Nermina.

I'm a CPA with more than 20 years of tax experience. For nearly a decade, I've worked primarily with travel nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals working across state lines.

If tax season has ever felt heavier or more confusing than it should, you’re in the right place.

— MY STORY

How I ended up here

I didn’t plan on building a career in taxes.

When I was younger, one of my professors asked me to volunteer with the VITA program, which provides free tax help for people who need it. I almost said no. I didn’t feel qualified, and I definitely didn’t feel confident.

Then I sat across from my first real client, walked them through their return, and watched things finally start to make sense for them.

That part stayed with me.

It was 2003 - years before I'd finish my accounting degree, sit for the CPA exam, or open my own doors. But that was the year tax work became the thing I did, and it's never stopped since.

I realized I liked helping people understand what was happening with their money, especially when the rules felt overwhelming or unclear. That is still the part of this work I care about most.

Travel healthcare professionals deal with some of the most confusing tax situations: multi-state income, tax home rules, stipends, temporary assignments, and questions that do not always have simple answers. Getting it wrong can be expensive. Getting the right guidance can make a big difference.

That is the work I enjoy most: helping people untangle the details, understand where they stand, and move forward with more confidence.

The background behind the calm

I earned my accounting degree from the University of North Florida in 2008, passed the CPA exam in 2011, and became a licensed CPA in 2012.

I founded Choice1 Accounting & Tax Services dba Nermina Culesker, CPA in 2009 and have been running it ever since. Over the years, I’ve handled individual and business tax returns, tax planning, consulting, accounting, and payroll.

In 2015, I also earned a Master’s degree in Database Technologies and Systems from Regis University. That surprises people sometimes, but it is part of why my process is organized and detail-oriented. I like systems. I like clean records. I like making sure the right information is in the right place before decisions are made.

When you work with me, my goal is not to make taxes feel more complicated. It is to make the process feel clearer, calmer, and more manageable.

When I’m not doing taxes

Outside of work, life is full in the best way.

I’m married to my elementary school sweetheart, raising two daughters, and rooted here in the Denver metro area.

The same thing that drew me into this work is still what matters most to me: taking care of the people in front of me, paying attention to the details, and making things a little easier where I can.

Let’s take taxes off your plate.

Reducing your stress and helping you feel more confident about your tax situation is the whole reason I do this.
